At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a Patient Services Representative (.5) to provide support to the Des Moines University Physical Therapy Clinic and Sports Performance Center by scheduling appointments and classes, coordinate patient records, communicate with the physicians’ offices and perform clerical work and minor administrative duties.
What you’ll do:
- Answer all incoming telephone calls and greet patients/visitors while providing friendly customer support, ascertain nature of business and direct them to appropriate person or area. Escort patient to appropriate location if needed.
- Schedule patient appointments according to the registration systems procedural manual.
- Perform patient registration, insurance verification and authorization along with data entry functions related to patient registration according to the registration systems procedural manual.
- Monitor patient information (HIPAA, signed consent and protected health information, addresses, telephone numbers and insurance information, etc) and make corrections as necessary or report the information to the appropriate department for correction.
- Collect all co-pays/deductibles or payments owed to Des Moines University, provide receipt, balance cash drawer and route money to the appropriate destination.
What we are looking for:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior front office work experience in a medical or dental office preferred.
- Experience with third-party payer regulations.
- Basic PC knowledge and skills including use of email and the internet; must be able to use various Microsoft office programs, our electronic health record and other related software for daily work.
- Must be able to operate a multipurpose copier, telephone, and other general office equipment.
