At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a full-time faculty member in our Public Health department. This faculty member will teach the quantitative science courses including Basic Statistics and Health analytics for graduate students in the  MPH and MHA programs. This position also involves conducting research, professional service, and supporting workforce development activities. We are seeking a faculty member with a strong quantitative science background, and a passion for teaching students how to use data to improve public health and health care.

What you’ll do:

  • Teaching             

Teach and/or coordinate graduate courses in the health care administration and public health programs. All didactic courses are offered fully online. This position will involve primarily (~75% time) teaching activities.

  • Research             

Maintain an active, independent, and productive program of research consistent with the university's promotion and tenure policy, and consistent with the Department academic missions.

  • Service

Serve on faculty committees, professional committees, and community organizations that benefit the community and advance the status of the department and the university.

  • This position has oversight of mentored student research assistants.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing and/or motivating and/or training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

What we’re looking for:

  • Faculty should hold the appropriate terminal degree, PhD or DrPH, in public health or health administration or closely related discipline relevant to the department's academic curricula. Doctoral candidates in dissertation phase may be given consideration but must secure appropriate terminal degree prior to start date.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in, or consulting with, public health and/or or healthcare organizations using data to improve patient / population outcomes.
  • Must be familiar with innovative teaching methodologies and effective student evaluation methods.
  • Must have demonstrated accomplishments in research and scholarly activity. Area of research inquiry / expertise is open.
  • Must be a member in good standing in appropriate professional organizations.
