Des Moines University’s College of Health Sciences is seeking dedicated Clinical Adjunct Faculty – Instructors to support our Occupational Therapy (OT) program. In this rewarding, part-time role, you’ll have the opportunity to mentor students, facilitate hands-on clinical experiences, and bring your expertise directly into the learning environment. Join us in preparing the next generation of occupational therapists to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care and to lead in a dynamic, patient-centered profession.

What you’ll do:

  • Teach and/or coordinate courses or labs in the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program related to area of content expertise. Teaching courses and labs includes preparation of the syllabus, preparation of learning materials (e.g., lectures, presentation, identification of appropriate readings / content, designing laboratory sessions), frequent and clear communication with students and other program faculty, strong faculty engagement and presence in the course, and responsiveness to student questions (via email or in the course site).
  • Seek and evaluate innovative educational methodologies to improve teaching and learning activities.                      
  • Modify course content, assessments, and/or teaching style based on assessment results, professional development experience, and curricular mapping results.
  • Participate in departmental quality course review process.          
  • Participate in instructor evaluation and assessment of student academic achievement and demonstrate modification of teaching techniques in accordance with assessment feedback.   

What we are looking for:

  • Occupational therapist with an active Iowa license or eligibility for Iowa licensure. Individuals whose academic and experiential qualifications and backgrounds align with job responsibilities but who are not occupational therapists will be considered with documented expertise in the anticipated areas of teaching.
  • Master’s or doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting agency; a doctoral degree or those in the process of completing a doctoral degree are preferred. The degrees are not limited to occupational therapy.
  • Minimum of 3 years of practice experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in teaching is preferred and highly desirable.
