At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a Global Student Experiences Specialist, who is responsible for the direction and support of student experiences including volunteer efforts for students under the direction of the Director of Student Affairs and global health education opportunities under the direction of the Director of Global Health. The position manages global student experiences through the development and implementation of programs in collaboration with university administrators, community, and international partners.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide overall direction and direct support as well as recruit students for community medicine and public health volunteer opportunities and assigned community service programs of the University including volunteer recruitment, event coordination, and recognition programs.
  • Lead implementation of student activities in the community. Provide clubs and organizations with volunteer and community medicine opportunities as they are available.
  • Manage online application software Terra Dotta and content, build, track and update students on travel program processes and timelines.
  • Manage Global Health Pulse page, external webpage updates, and Global Health Inbox.
  • Program tracking; international rotations, virtual rotations, spring and summer break programs via Excel, and management of surveys, survey data, and documentation for all programs.
  • Serve as proxy in the absence of the Director, represent DMU at events, on call for emergencies, etc.
  • Student engagement: advise Global Health Student Club, manage Anthology and ongoing student communication and program marketing, coordinate on-campus student programming.
  • Manage departmental catering and transportation requests and other duties as needed.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three years of relevant work experience required. In lieu, a master’s degree and two years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment and event planning.
  • Experience in Education Abroad or another area of International Education in higher education.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving, strategic planning, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to support events outside of regular business hours, including evenings and occasional weekends as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and be willing to drive university vehicles as needed.
  • Must have a valid passport or be willing to obtain one.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (typically 1–2 trips per year), including conferences and short-term site visits with students and faculty.

Total Rewards:

For this position, we anticipate a starting salary in the upper $60,000's. However, the final offered salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experiences of the selected candidate.

Annual Security Report

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, Des Moines University publishes an annual security report and makes it available to all current and prospective students and employees.
